Set how often you want to stay in touch

Give a sphere a cadence, from weekly to annually, so Relatable tells you when you've gone quiet too long.

Give any sphere a rhythm and Relatable will tell you when someone in it has gone quieter than you meant to let them.

Why it matters

Most people don't lose touch on purpose. They mean to email an old colleague and then a quarter goes by. A cadence turns that good intention into something Relatable actually tracks, instead of relying on you to remember.

It's also permission to be honest about a relationship. Your "Investors" sphere might need a monthly check-in. Your "College Friends" sphere might only need one a year. Neither is wrong. A cadence just makes the gap visible before it turns into an apology.

How it works

Set an interval on a sphere: weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, or none at all. Relatable watches whether you've had contact with each person in that sphere — an email sent or received, a meeting logged, an interaction you noted by hand. When someone crosses the interval with none of that, they show up as a suggestion on your dashboard: a nudge to reach out, not a scolding.

How to use it

  1. On the web: open a sphere and find its cadence setting.
  2. Pick an interval, or choose none if you'd rather not be reminded for this group.3. From then on, anyone in that sphere who passes the interval without contact shows up as a suggestion on your dashboard.
  3. Contact counts as an email you send or receive through Relatable, a meeting on your calendar with them, or a note you log yourself. An unread email sitting in your inbox doesn't count.
  4. Change or turn off a cadence any time. It only applies going forward.
  5. Zvi's advice: pick a notch less often than you think you need. If you're sure you want monthly, choose quarterly instead. You'll actually keep it, and a realistic cadence beats one you quietly start ignoring.

Good to know

  • No sphere is required to have a cadence. Spheres without one simply won't generate suggestions.
  • A cadence applies to the whole sphere, not one contact at a time, so put someone in a sphere with the rhythm that fits them.
  • Sending a message to someone with a pending suggestion clears it automatically. You don't need to dismiss it separately.
  • You can also mark someone as "recently spoken to" without sending a message, to reset the clock.

Ask Whiz

  • "What's my cadence for Close Friends?"
  • "Which of my spheres don't have a cadence set?"
