The quarterly re-sort of who matters

Thirty minutes a quarter to recalibrate strength and importance so your relationship radar stays honest.

Once a quarter, recalibrate who's actually important to you and how close you actually are to them. Not who you wish it were, not who mattered a year ago.

Why it matters

Strength and importance drive everything else: the radar, your suggestions, what floats to the top of your morning check-in. If those scores are stale, set once when you first added someone and never touched again, the whole system is quietly wrong. It nudges you toward people who don't matter anymore and stays silent on people who do.

The payoff is simple: when the radar tells you someone's slipping, you can actually believe it.

How it works

Once a quarter, about thirty minutes. You're not reviewing every contact. You're running two honest gut-check questions against your inner circle and letting the radar show you where things have quietly drifted.

How to do it

  1. Open the radar and look at who's clustered where. Anyone whose dot feels wrong, too far out, too small, is worth a second look.
  2. Run the grocery store test on your closest people: if you saw them at the end of the cereal aisle, would you drop what you're carrying and go say hi, or duck down the next aisle? The second answer means their importance is probably set too high.
  3. Run the $20 test: if they called and asked to borrow $20, would you say yes without thinking twice? That's roughly what real strength looks like. A no isn't a verdict on the relationship, it's just information.
  4. Open a few contact profiles, switch into edit mode on the Details tab, and adjust strength and importance to match what you actually believe today.
  5. For a bigger pass, filter for a whole group, say, everyone in a sphere still sitting at the default importance, and bulk-update them at once instead of one at a time.

What good looks like

  • The radar's top cluster is people you'd actually be glad to run into.
  • You've touched strength or importance on more than a handful of contacts, not left every score exactly where it was set at import.
  • The next round of suggestions feels like it's pointing at the right people.

If you fell off

Scores that haven't moved in a year aren't a crisis. They're just out of date, which is normal for anything nobody scheduled.

Restart with five minutes on the radar: open it, fix whoever's obviously miscategorized, stop there. The full pass can wait for next quarter.
