Give every contact a home base, and you can see at a glance who lives where, useful the moment you're planning a trip or someone's about to move.

Why it matters

You don't usually think about where your contacts live until you need to know: you're headed to a city, or someone just moved there. Without a location on file, that question turns into scrolling your memory instead of your contacts. A location on each contact turns "who do I know in Austin" from a guess into an actual answer.

It's a small thing to add and an easy one to skip, but it pays off exactly when you need it most: planning who to see on a trip, or figuring out who's already in the city you're about to move to.

How it works

Each contact has one primary location at a time, San Francisco, Austin, wherever they're actually based. You add it once, on the contact's profile or in bulk across several contacts, and from then on you can filter your whole network by it to see everyone in a given place.

How to use it

  1. On the web: open a contact's profile and add or edit their location.2. To set locations for several people at once, select multiple contacts from the Database page and apply a location in bulk.
  2. To find everyone in a place, filter your network by location. See Find anyone in your network in seconds.
  3. Put it to use before a trip: filter to who's already where you're headed. See Traveling: see who you know where you're going.
  4. Or after a move: filter to who's already in your new city. See Moving to a new city.

Good to know

  • A contact has one location at a time. If it changes, just update it, there's no history to reconcile.
  • Locations work even without a sphere or tag attached, they're their own layer, separate from topics, companies, and expertise.
  • Filtering by location uses the same filter drawer you use for spheres, topics, and companies. See Find anyone in your network in seconds.
